City of London Police update – unexplained death

Following the discovery of a woman’s body within the City of London on Monday (27 November 2017), we can confirm that it is still being treated as unexplained.

The City of London Police were called at 5.38am on Monday by London Ambulance Service paramedics to a 57-year-old woman found with injuries behind the City of London School for Girls in the Barbican.

The woman was confirmed deceased at the scene, and preliminary findings from a post mortem indicate injuries consistent with a fall from height.

Enquiries are ongoing, and officers will now work to prepare a file for the City of London Coroner.

Detective Chief Inspector Edelle Michaels of the City of London Police Major Crime Team said:

“We are keen to reassure the local community and the general public that we are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

“The woman’s family have been informed and are now receiving support from specially-trained City of London Police officers.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the community for their patience during our investigation, and for everyone who has supported our appeal for information.”

It has been established that the woman did not have any connection to the school or the local area.
