Man and Woman charged after allegedly faking death to claim life insurance

Today (5 April 2017) a mother and her son have been charged at Perry Barr Police Station, Birmingham, with fraud by false representation after they allegedly conspired to fake the mother’s death in Zanzibar, as part of an alleged attempt to claim £140,000 worth of life insurance.

Arafa Nassib, aged 45 of Lower Rushall Lane, Walsall and Adil Kasim, aged 18 of Lower Rushall Lane, Walsall, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 3 May 2017.

The insurer referred it to the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED) in late 2016. Kasim was arrested by officers on 22 December 2016 and Nassib was arrested on 8 February 2017 when she returned to the country from Canada.
