Three arrested in ghost broking investigation

Two men and a woman were arrested on Tuesday 21 February 2017 as part of a joint investigation between the City of London Police Major Crime Team and the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB).

Detectives from the City of London Police executed warrants in Tottenham, East Ham and Barking.

Two men were arrested in Tottenham on suspicion of acting as unregistered insurance brokers, conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation, conspiracy to supply drugs and money laundering.

During the raid in East Ham, a woman was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and money laundering offences.

Following a search of several premises a number of items were seized, including paperwork seeming to relate to vehicle insurance policies, approximately £2000 in cash, laptops and mobile phones.

Working with City of London Police, the IFB is looking to identify the widespread reach of this fraud across the insurance industry. The IFB acts as a central data hub for the industry to detect and disrupt organised motor insurance fraud and works in partnership with UK police forces to support the arrests of suspected fraudsters.

All three have been released on bail until May as the investigation continues.
