City of London Police and partners prepare for demonstration by taxi drivers

Members of the public and motorists are advised that during the afternoon of Wednesday 1 March they should expect delays to their journeys around the Square Mile due to an expected demonstration at Bank junction.

It is anticipated that taxi drivers will stage a protest at Bank junction and as such those who need to travel through the area are encouraged to plan ahead as significant delays are likely.

Chief Superintendent David Lawes from City of London Police said: “We are aware of plans posted on social media for a second wave of demonstrations at Bank junction. Together with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service, we have been working to engage directly with event organisers; however, this has so far been unsuccessful. We are keen to work with the organisers and would strongly encourage them to get in touch with us or the Metropolitan Police.

“I also appreciate the disruption that such events can cause to the public; it is our aim to keep disruption to a minimum. I want to reiterate that our priority is to balance the needs and rights of those who wish to peacefully demonstrate with those impacted by the protest.”

As and when more details become available we will update our website and @CityPolice Twitter account.
