Police appeal for whereabouts of jewellery stolen from deceased Barbican resident

Officers from the City of London Police are investigating a theft from a flat in the Barbican, in which a number of valuable items of jewellery were stolen.

The jewellery belonged to the owner of the flat who died earlier this year. Her son visited the property in Defoe House (EC2Y) on Saturday 16 March to sort out her belongings, and found a box of jewellery which he stored on a shelf inside the kitchen cupboard. On Tuesday 2 April, another immediate family member visited the flat and discovered the jewellery was missing.

PC Stacie Cottrell, from the City of London Police, said:

“This jewellery has tremendous sentimental value to the family and we are encouraging anyone with information about its whereabouts to get in touch.

“If anyone has been approached to buy this jewellery, or has seen it advertised for sale, we would also really like to hear from you.”

Officers can be contacted on 020 7601 2813. Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, via their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
