Upcoming protest activity

We are expecting disruption from a protest group called Animal Rebellion – an offshoot from the environmental group, Extinction Rebellion - to occur in the City.

Animal Rebellion intend to protest over a 24 hour period on Monday 7 October to Tuesday 8 October, in the area around Smithfield Market. Companies based in or around the market may be affected, with the possibility of road closures and some disruption. Protesters may also camp in the area surrounding the market.

Most of those companies in the immediate area will already have been visited by our officers, but if you believe you will be affected and have not yet spoken to us, please contact us on protestenquiries@cityoflondon.pnn.police.uk

You can keep up-to-date during the protests by following us on Twitter, where we will give regular updates. We will also be using the Everbridge system for communicating alerts around road closures or any significant points of concern. You can sign up for Everbridge here.

Following the protest by Animal Rebellion, there will be further protests, across London, by Extinction Rebellion, which could last for up to two weeks. The City of London Police will remain an integral part of the pan London policing operation for these protests, and any developing intelligence regarding activity in the City, throughout the two weeks, will be shared with the local community via the channels mentioned above. For further information about how the protests may affect the rest of the capital, please visit https://twitter.com/MetPoliceEvents.
